Elderly patients receive less attention in the ICU

Seniors who are less likely to be treated in an intensive care unit (ICU) during a serious illness, according to a study presented at the American Thoracic Society International Conference in Orlando May 24. The study of more than one million Medicare beneficiaries nationwide have found that a person over age 90 was one-third probability that someone aged 68 to 70 of the same race, gender, income and status of the disease are receiving treatment in intensive care or intensive care.
